9TH LDS FILM FESTIVAL 2010
JANUARY 20-23, 2010 | SCERA CENTER, OREM

7-PAGE SCRIPT COMPETITION

Decription:
The 7-page script competition will be held for the fourth time this year. Each year we produce three short films from submitted scripts. Writers are invited to submit a 7-page screenplay that will be made into a short film. The festival will give all submitted scripts to three filmmakers, who each will select a script and make it into a short film. The budget for each film will be $500. Screenwriters are encouraged to collaborate with the filmmaker who selected their script. The goal is to premiere all three films at the festival. The three selected scripts will automatically win the 1st Place award in the Script Competition. Each filmmaker will also select two additional runner-up scripts for Honorable Mention. The purpose of this competition is to give writers an opportunity to have their work produced and showcased.

Awards:
The following awards have been generously donated by R. Don Oscarson, a strong supporter of young LDS artists:
1st place..............................$200.00
1st place.............................$200.00
1st place..............................$200.00
Certificates for Honorable Mention will also be awarded.

Length:
7 pages in screenplay format

Criteria:
The LDS Film Festival is looking for entries demonstrating intelligence, spirituality, originality, integrity, and technical excellence in their approach to the subject matter and motto of the festival. No foul language, sexual content or graphic violence will be permitted. All submissions must be in English.

Subject Matter:
Scripts do not have to be LDS or gospel themed. We are looking for honest stories that are personal, real and true. You have all the freedom you need to express something important, unique, or personal. Please review the motto of the festival for more information regarding the subject matter. Keep in mind that the budget to make your script into a short film is $500. Certain ideas could be difficult to translate onto film given the limited budget. It might also be a good idea to keep locations and characters to a minimum and tell a present day story.

Extended Submission Deadline:
November 16 (Postmarked)

Extended Entry Fee:
$30

Judging:
The festival will select three filmmakers who will each select three scripts. Each filmmaker will then pick one of the three scripts and make them into a short film. The other two scripts will receive an Honorable Mention in the 7-page screenplay competition. The goal is to premiere all three produced films at the festival. All three produced scripts will share 1st place honors in the 7-Page Script Competition.

Screenings:
The times and schedules for screenings of all selected films will be announced on this website no later than Thursday, December 31, 2009.
